Waterfalls on Maui
Waterfalls on Maui occur mostly during the
Maui winter rainy season.
Streams with tropical waterfalls during the rainy season often dry up in summer, and waterfalls may slow to a trickle in summer in places where there are gushing waterfalls during the rainy season.
So you have a greater chance of seeing more waterfalls if you come during the Maui winter rainy season.
Some waterfalls on Maui are more accessible than others:
-----
WATERFALLS YOU CAN DRIVE TO:
ALONG THE ROAD TO HANA are many bridges over streams throughout the green tropical rain forest covering the east side of Haleakala mountain on Maui. And when it rains, especially in winter, you will cross numerous bridges where streams rush over waterfalls.
WAILUA FALLS is a stop on the road beyond Hana in Kipahulu.
-----
WATERFALLS YOU CAN HIKE TO:
TWIN FALLS TRAIL
Twin Falls is near the start of the Road to Hana, and a short hike from the road will bring you to pools that you can swim in below two tropical waterfalls.
WAIMOKU FALLS TRAIL
Waimoku Falls comes after Hana at Oheo Gulch, where a hike of two miles first brings you to Makahiku Falls overlook and then through a bamboo forest brings to the base of Waimoku Falls that plunges down from 450 feet above you. Beware of swimming in the pool below the falls because of the danger of falling rocks.
-----
WATERFALLS YOU CAN FLY TO:
Helicopter tours will take you to see spectacular waterfalls on Maui that are otherwise inaccessible.
WALL OF TEARS
The Wall of Tears is a wide series of waterfalls that can be seen on a helicopter tour.
HONOKAHAU FALLS
Honokahau Falls 1,500 feet high is the highest waterfall on Maui, and can be seen on a helicopter tour.
MOLOKAI SEA CLIFFS
On a helicopter tour from Maui to the neighboring island of Molokai, you may be lucky enough in the rainy season to see a row of waterfalls plunging down 2,000 feet from the Sea Cliffs of Molokai, which are the highest in the world.
