Things To Do in HanaThings To Do in Hana: From Maui vacation resorts in Kaanapali and Wailea, Hana is on the far side of Haleakala Mountain at the remote eastern end of the island. Hana is a drive of about three hours one way from both Maui tourist resort areas, from Kaanapali in West Maui, and from South Maui by Wailea. The driving time from the Maui resorts and return means a trip to Hana is a full day trek. If you are taking a day trip to see the sights in Hana, a list of things to do in Hana will help you make the most of your time there. Recommendation: Leave as early as possible -- if you want to go all the way to Hana or past to Oheo Pools. IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO GO ALL THE WAY TO HANA. You can make a shorter trip -- because by the time you drive halfway to Hana you will have seen one of the most spectacular sights: the Rain Forest. ----- So Hana things to do are in three categories: 1. Just past HOOKIPA BEACH, from the overlook watch windsurfers, surfers, and kiteboarders (depending on wind and surf conditions). The Waterfall Wayside is near the end of the RAINFOREST, so this is a good place to turn back if you want to cut your trip short. Or you may decide to drive farther to see the Ranchlands of Hana. 2. After seeing Oheo many visitors turn back at this point to return the same way they came before nightfall. Or you may decide to drive farther to see more of Kipahulu beyond Oheo. THINGS TO DO BEYOND OHEO: Visit LINDBERGH'S GRAVE. Make a BICYCLE SMOOTHIE at Laulima Farm -- have fun riding a stationary bike to power a blender to mix a smoothie. -------- Some tour vans continue on to return to the resorts via the back road -- which in some spots is one-lane or unpaved.
