LANAI Island
LANAI is one of the six major tourist destination islands of Hawaii.
Lanai Island as a vacation destination is often included with Maui Island, being only nine miles apart, and linked by regular ferry service. [The same is true of Molokai Island.]
Lanai is the least populous of the six tourist destination islands, with only one small town Lanai ‘City’ with 3,000 people.
Lanai has a low mountain which receives only moderate rainfall, leaving most of the island dry and without much vegetation.

HOTELS ON LANAI
Lanai has two luxury resort hotels where tourist can stay:
Manele Bay Hotel on the south coast is shielded from the numerous winter storms that come from the northeast, resulting in perfect weather its only beach on Manele Bay.
The Lodge at Koele is outside Lanai City at 3000 feet elevation, cooler and rainier.
The small historic Hotel Lanai in the small town of Lanai City is another accommodation option.

DAY TRIP TO LANAI FROM MAUI
You can go on a side trip to the island of Lanai from Maui seven miles away via ferry boat, perhaps to golf on the two fine golf courses near the two luxury hotels.
A typical day trip to Lani from Maui consists of a boat ride to the only harbor on Lanai, then a short stroll to the nearby big beach at Manele Bay for sunbathing and snorkeling, followed by lunch at the luxury hotel at one end of the beach, with a return to Maui at the end of the afternoon.
There are two ways to take this day trip to Lanai from Maui.
The inexpensive way is to go by yourself on the ferry to Lanai.
The luxury version of essentially the same trip is to go on a tour boat.
Besides the regular ferry service to Lanai, several other companies offers boat tours to Lanai from Maui for snorkeling (although only a few of these tour boats actually land on Lanai).

TRANSPORTATION ON LANAI
On Lanai shuttle vans are available to the hotels or to Lanai 'City' nine miles from the port.
A shuttle fee is charged for non-guests and those who have not purchased a golf package.
(Complimentary shuttle service is provided for anyone on golf packages and for registered resorts guests -- to the golf courses and to all resort activity locations including the tennis courts, Lanai Pine Sporting Clays, and stables.)
